Here is the project that myself and the rest of The Last Quest have been working on for the last three months. We all love doing it and the results have been pretty awesome. Check out all the awesome local Seattle music we use for the soundtracks!
Georgetown 04.11.09 = Marching Bands?!
by bjhutch on Apr.14, 2009, under Music, video
The marching bands have invaded!
This Saturday the streets of Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood were covered with people holding instruments, dancing their asses off and confused drunkards whose faces rarely showed a frown. It was like being witness to some great random flash mob. I had no idea what was happening and like great acts of guerrilla theater the audience (myself included) was transfixed. These people had so much energy and joy it was hard to be the usual curmudgeonly old man I have a tendency defaulting to in public situations. Here is some iphone-o-rific videos:
In front of Smarty Pants:
In an empty lot:
In the damn street on Airway Drive:
Here is some madman who figured out how to make his ipod touch a part of the horn section:
So all the while that this marching band madness was going on The Stevedore was preparing to play at The Mix. They are normally a five person band that played as a four piece for this show. The other member of their band is in Pakastan right now doing international reporting. So they had someone sing his part. She was named Jennifer(?) and she was awesome. Here is some video of the very end of the show:
New Music… Tweak Bird?
by bjhutch on Mar.27, 2009, under Music
It’s is 9:30am… time to wake up and make some coffee or if you’re at work it about time to change up your work avoidance habits for the day before the boss gets wise. This would be true if you weren’t me. My mind is a slippery gooey thing that even I don’t comprehend. It is 9:30am and I haven’t slept for 20 some hours. Was it because I was inspired and on somekind of artistic high? No. My mind wouldn’t just shut the hell up.
Icky.
But along my sleep-deprived epic youtube/myspace/torrent tracker travels I found a band I think I like a lot. Their music strikes me as what happens when hippies listen to The Melvins too much. It warps the standard hippy mind into something quite interesting.
They are called Tweak Bird and they make me tingle in my special place. I am glad to have something new to cleanse the palette after my stormy three month romance (that I think has ended badly) with the new Animal Collective album.
Here is a weird video of them on some pretty bad TV show. It gets really good at the 1:13 mark.
The Stevedore @ The Skylark Cafe
by bjhutch on Feb.15, 2009, under Music, Tech, video
So the show went great on friday. The Skylark Cafe is a great place to see a band… and also a good one to do vjing work at. Charlie the sound guy who works there is on top of his shit. He was super helpful and gave me a little cramped spot right next to the soundboard to setup my gear.
So yeah the show went really really good. This is the first time I felt in the least bit prepared for. I had 4 days to prep and primp and boy did it come in handy because The Stevedores threw me a curve ball right before the show and changing the set list.
I was also able to get a soundboard recording of the show and a two channel video feed of the show so video will be popping up around the net.
Here is some video from The Stevedore’s New Years performance at the Skylark. The song they are playing is called Blackcat Contraban.
Another one of south/west seattles neatest bands Bend was there. They are pretty amazing live. I have seen them play with the Stevedore before. They were great tonight. They talked to me about doing some vjing for them so who knows!
So yeah good show good people… nice time all around. I will be edting the video from the performance over the next few days and I’ll post some of it down the road.
So I have been asked who what where and how of what I’m doing for these performances and I wil be detailing that soon if anyone on here is interested.
